Astral travel
I'm posting some info i got on the website connected to the course i will be taking...

The Astral Plane is another dimension, or a parallel universe, as a scientist would say. The Astral Plane is the dimension where each one of us go every time we sleep, with our Astral body. It is the land of dreams.

Every night in our dreams we repeat to a greater or lesser degree our daily events, thoughts and feelings. These are often transformed by our psyche into the most ludicrous or fantastic scenarios. Our subconscious projects them into the Astral environment, and this is generally how our dreams are created.

This process is what clouds our perception of the real Astral environment, in much the same way as a daydream stops us from perceiving our physical environment.

Nonetheless, we may sometimes wake in the morning, recalling dreams of places we've never been before. It is very likely that we visited the Astral counterpart of that Physical place, even if it was in a hazy, dreamlike state.

Within the Astral Plane there exists all that exists in the Physical Plane. However, there is much in the Astral Plane that we could never find in the Physical: sacred temples, divine beings, amazing phenomenon...

But sadly, those unconscious thoughts and feelings, many of which we are unaware during the day, are recollected by the subconscious and projected into the Astral realm at night, either making our dream experiences too vague or blocking out the reality of where we are all together. This is one of the reasons why the Gnostic Movement teaches in-depth about Awareness and its development in our lives. This prolongs and intensifies our Astral experiences.

Astral Travel is very different to normal dreaming. It is an extraordinary experience. All who have experienced it can testify to its lucidity and magical quality.

It is interesting that conscious Astral Travel is experienced as clearly as we experience our daily life. In fact, it is even experienced more clearly at times: our senses seem sharper and the environment somehow more real.

It is often considered that Astral Travel (Out-of-Body Experiences) is only encountered by people that have had a near death experience after an accident or on the operating table. But Astral Travel is a natural possibility that anyone can develop through practice.

The Gnostic Movement teaches how to Astral Project (to pass consciously from the Physical Plane to the Astral Plane) with very successful results. One such practice of Astral Projection simply allows us to become aware of the natural process of going to sleep. If we manage to be aware of this, then we consequently become aware of our departure into the Astral Plane as well.

So when we are Astral Traveling, we are aware of the fact that we are physically asleep and that our physical body is at home in bed. We know we are actually in this other plane, as opposed to the dreamer who only realizes they were not in the physical plane upon waking the next morning. While Astral Traveling we make conscious decisions - like where to go, what to do, or who to meet.

In the Astral the sky is not the limit. One can fly way beyond the blue sky, into deep space exploring the planets. One can consciously project to any part of the world through concentration...

We can fly through the air, having a birds eye view of what is below, traveling across the surface of our huge planet...

Imagine being able to glide over the ocean like a seagull, or being able to penetrate into it and breath beneath it like a fish...

We can meet enlightened beings, even of distant ancient traditions, who can help guide us along the Spiritual Path. Or we can even attend true esoteric schools and temples to learn much about the mysteries of life and death...

There is all sorts of hidden knowledge one can acquire through Astral Projection, knowledge that cannot be acquired in every day life, from other people or books.

This is the reason why many want to Astral Travel - to acquire knowledge through experience about ourselves, about the Earth, the Universe, or anything we want to.

All of this is available to us through Astral Travel. It is something worth experiencing and verifying.

Hey folks, it's me your ROTTEN hostess...I've made my autumn elph diary private and virtually abandoned this community...but i will soon nurture it..(maybe i'm taking this community concept too seriously, but i did have good intentions by starting this...and remain hopeful)....
Thankyou Thankyou to Ayla for posting all those delicious poems....I do read them...moments near the computer are simply fleeting these days.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to new members or whoever...I'd like to say i'm the local trickster but my bag is empty save a few rabbits and rabbit medicine is fear, so let's empty the bag completely and start anew.
Maybe there are a few owls looming...
who who
so tell me all about you!

old poem "Trickster" (About an Owl)
someone said you can't crazy glue spiders to the moon...she's too moody and if you try to silence her she only screams back louder....it's her wolf medicine...I'm rather uncivilized today, spiders fall from my mouth where pearls used to drop so I'm weaving my way out....blood on my hands...the truth is always choked on like those dainty pearls she wears...swiftly fall from long slender necks, torn by haunted wolves from faerie tales of yore.....
you speak in circles so i spin.....

you sat on athena's shoulder for a few thousand years until you lost your loyalty

athena hung my heart and you smiled as my throat was sewn with the dust of deceit

I suppose this is all there is, you walk proudly in your air of royalty

athena got jealous and you were so enamoured but the naive girl you chose is the one

with the voice

and the silence you plant are mere seeds of torn chakras

that you scavenge upon your wanderings

plutonian plenipotentiary

paranoia was my paradigm

I wore it well

but the pearls on your altar are tainted

and the words that wisp like light lotus

are stale and saturated in the essences of every woman you have longed to cosmically embrace, only to spiritually erase with your thirst for light

leaking out of the resins of your pernickedy eyes

it's not even curiousity that binds us

nor is it mystical equilibrium

it's like a chemistry experiment gone array

the elixer got heavy and the harsh reaction

is truth

you are my breath, not my beloved

we are woven of the same stalk

we do not nor shall we ever walk in strength

there is no miraged assimilation

rising from the splintered mirror

we would perish together

the unravellings of my own illusions revealed the stitches cling of concubines

submerged in infinite spontaneity

your otherworldly make up runs like mascara

the masque is unsettling

I want to resolve whatever draws wisdom to your paws

malleable to your fancies

discarded dreams drift like parallel anchors

you remind the clock's that time is a spinning wheel of energy

when spellbound these manifestations do not adhere to the standard belief that logic holds salt

the dream is as fierce and cunning as any teacher

the lesson is esoteric

piercing prisms of charcoaled belief systems

etched across eternity in a bird's eye view

a trickster is a solitary creature who heightens the awareness of the journey

setting cobbled stones on your well paved path

the soils bear seedlings of goddess

the oak asks nothing but truth

why do we mime the illusion

why do we spin such mythology?

language is the contraceptive to wisdom

fear of fertile light

fear of letting go

the way a trickster unravels your safety

a boundary is a limitation

and the plateau is unattainable without compassion

the world awaits your voice,

What do you know about the Akashic Records?

My roomate is doing Akashic Record readings.
She started mine..it was really interesting...little things would come up...at first they made no sense, and then...tears were pouring down my face..."poison tears" i call them b/c the ones that were really held in for so long, REALLY hurt...they burn like acid peeling off your skin.

ps. here's a not-so-impressive definition i found on the internet:

The Akashic record is an imagined spiritual realm, supposedly holding a record of all events, actions, thoughts and feelings that have ever occurred or will ever occur. Theosophists believe that the Akasha is an "astral light" containing occult records which spiritual beings can perceive by their special "astral senses" and "astral bodies". Clairvoyance, spiritual insight, prophecy and many other untestable metaphysical and religious notions are made possible by tapping into the Akasha.

I am wondering...do you believe in this?

I think I do, which I never would have even thought at one point in my life. Simple b/c the things that came up in mine were so PAINFULLY ACCURATE, private things.

ps. I don't know a lot about the Akashic Records. It seems to be a Hindu Spiritual belief, popularized by the late american mystic Edward Cayce.

In my past lives I was crucified
like jesus
burnt for being a witch
cut for being clairyovant
in this life
i see shadows
glimmers of truth
seasoned with the salt
of my karma
while i'm grateful it's not tasteless
the lessons are so strong
that i wonder
is it worth the wounds?
is it worth the so called wisdom?
to be humiliated?
to have your neck torn apart?
to have your heart eaten by wolves?
just to find a broken slipper
and run away with uncertain pumpkins?
could it have been softer?
the gentle colours of springtime
peaking through icy moments?
the voiceless rustle of bursting oranges
in the leaves of autumn
without the blood of experience
to paint the pathways of the myth?

random owl lore
INDIA: "A bird of witchcraft, of death and doom."

CHINA: "The bird which snatches away the soul."
owl hoot= "digging the grave". Owls are believed to suck the blood of infants.

MOROCCO: Owl is said to take the form of a woman (shapeshifting).

INDIAN PANCATANTRAM: "king of the crows affiliates the owl to be the devil, while the crow is of the light. (similar myth in Greek and Latin).

BOMBAY: "Dissolute men become owls after they die."

Although, most native medicines consider owl to be a strong symbol of death and betrayal, sometimes called "deceiver feathers." Some medicines consider owl to be good medicine, the symbol of powerful wisdom. The mystique of the owl as a night bird and moon medicine has led those i the dark arts to call upon owl medicine.
This does not mean that owl is of a dark place. Rather, owl has the ability to see through those dark layers and pull the light out of the shadows. Owl medicine deals with the duplicity of our own inner shadow sides. Owl may come upon your path if there are painful sexuality/betrayal issues on your journey. A symbol of strong intuition and wisdom, owl is the ability to visualize. To manifest. But be careful that your will is not tainted, as owl teaches you the lesson needed, not the one you desire.

do words have power?
I'm coming out of lurkerhood with an issue that is quite pressing for me at the moment.

Do words really have power? If someone curses you, does it matter? I think I have been cursed here (=India) more often than I care to think about.

Life's very simple with beggars. If you give them money, they bless you. If you don't, they curse you.

I don't have any clear and well-defined opinion about the power of words, about curses and blessings, but still I feel rather bad about this.

My scientific mind is telling me that I shouldn't worry, but yet I feel that I should do something. Something that would send the negative thoughts / energies to some other direction.

Any ideas?

I'd like to change the dynamics of this community. I'd like it to be chatty..since a lot of art is not shared on here, anyway. I'd like to make it a closed community, so if you are thinking that you're bored to tears, nows a good time to leave. I don't mean to sound rude here, but this isn't what i wanted from the community. Sou portraits was intended as a safe, spiritual creative stomping ground for ppl to exchange ideas....maybe it doesn't need to be closed, but too much silent lurking makes me nervous. Hey, I do the same...that's why i will be leaving all the communities i "lurk" on....a community is supposed to have active members, right?
Well, i'll figure it out...any help, suggestions, is appreciated...post a question or topic for us to discuss....pplease?

I live in Canada. What, if you feel ok sharing, is your background/roots?

I am French/Irish/Scottish and I've recently learned i am part aboriginal...possibly Iroquois but uncertain, as well as some Icelandic blood on my mother's side. I'm drawn to the Arctic and to India.

Wow...I wish I could offer you some tea and a warm velvety couch to put your feet upon...hmm...well, anything is possible in pixie land..*hands over a steaming cup of cider*

Last week had a lovely coffee with a couple of poet friends and, if only for a moment, had a sense of what makes poetry so unique and special.

Just now read this post in buddhists:
"A haiku is not a poem, it is not literature; it is a hand becoming, a door half-opened, a mirror wiped clean. It is a way of returning to nature, to our moon nature, our cherry blossom nature, our falling leaf nature, in short, to our Buddha nature. It is a way in which the cold winter rain, the swallows of evening, even the very day in its hotness, and the length of the night, become truly alive, share in our humanity, speak their own silent and expressive language."
            R.H. Blyth
Yaa! And I suggest it isn't all that different for other arts!
